Dean’s remarkable career progression at National Care Group
National Care Group are celebrating the outstanding achievements of support worker Dean Davies. In a matter of months, he has flourished and made a huge impact on the people he supports and his colleagues.
Dean joined National Care Group’s Endurance Care Worcestershire service last year with no formal experience working in health and social care. He had been out of work for many years due to his commitments as a single dad to his children, who also have some complex needs.
When Dean joined National Care Group, he felt the time was right to bring his personal experiences to a social care role and was keen to make a positive impact on the lives of people with health and social care needs. It was immediately clear that all of the people Dean works with liked his calming influence, sense of humour, and naturally caring nature.
Dean completed his care certificate with flying colours and, with his knowledge from personal experiences and passion for the role, quickly began acting as a shift leader. He arranges exciting activities for the people we support, such as arts and crafts, and baking. He also comes up with ideas to increase their access to the community and develop independent living skills.
Dean’s remarkable achievements haven’t gone unnoticed by his colleagues. A couple of months after starting his role, he was presented with an ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ by National Care Group. The company’s awards recognise colleagues that go above and beyond their roles to make amazing happen for the people we support or their fellow team members.
Kelly Smith, Registered Manager at National Care Group’s Endurance Care Worcestershire, said:
The team of nurses and carers at Thornhill House are delighted to have received a Derbyshire End of Life Quality Care Award.
Deputy manager Pauline, with support from her manager and staff team, instigated the application for the award.
Assessment for the award includes completion of a supportive palliative care register, providing evidence of how deaths have been managed in the home and post-death analysis.
Going forward, the end of life care provided by Thornhill House will be reviewed every three months by the awarding assessment team.
The assessors gave positive feedback on the information leaflet for relatives written by the manager and deputy manager and have taken that and an end of life care plan to use as examples.
Receiving the award has given recognition of the standard of end of life care at Thornhill House which has been rewarding for the staff and reassuring to residents and their families.
The ongoing assessment is an incentive to maintain standards and motivation to further develop this specialist interest.
Thornhill House say the most valued support and recognition comes from the families and friends of their residents, for example:
