This Good News Friday we’re hearing from one of our endorsed providers, Alium Care Training, about how they helped a care provider improve their Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating.

Alium Care Training is a recognised care training provider, and a ¹ú²úÂÒÂ× ‘centre of excellence’. Alium specialises in providing care training courses and integrated programmes for all levels of staff within the adult social care sector across various settings.

The team tell us that they’re passionate about providing an excellent learner experience and all their courses are delivered with integrity by knowledgeable trainers.

Alium use a consultative approach to meeting the needs of the people using their training services. As part of this approach, they offered a bespoke package to a service provider who had recently been rated as inadequate by CQC.

Alium initially conducted an audit by looking at how the provider was currently running on a day-to-day basis, and by understanding what improvements needed to be made to improve their level of service. To do this, they used ¹ú²úÂÒÂ× learning and development programmes to help the provider improve their leadership capabilities.

The programmes used included:

  • Lead to succeed - a practical learning programme aimed at aspiring managers and deputies in adult social care services
  • Leading changing improving care - a practical leadership development programme aimed at registered managers and other managers currently working in adult social care services
  • Well-led - a practical leadership development programme aimed at registered managers and other managers currently working in adult social care services.
  • Continuing professional development (CPD) modules - a selection of practical CPD modules aimed at registered managers and other managers currently working in adult social care services.

In addition to advising on learning and development opportunities, Alium were able to provide the care provider they were supporting with expertise on the funding available through the Workforce Development Fund (WDF). This meant that the care provider was able to claim money back towards the cost of training.

Following completion of the recommended learning and development programmes, Alium supported the care provider to create a culture of aiming to be outstanding each and every day. This was achieved through the implementation of revising policies and ensuring leadership practices aligned to what had been learned in the training. Managers are now more efficient and have the confidence to proficiently lead the service.

After re-inspection by the CQC, the service was rated as ‘Good.’

The provider said:

I can honestly say that without the commitment and support given by Alium, we would not be on the pathway to improvement. I also know that the journey is not finished, and I am confident that Alium will be there if we require further support. I’d recommend Sangita and her team to anyone who requires a dedicated open and honest approach to support required.
